Hybrid Fragment System
Jhouyu HSIEH
I no longer trust that names bring understanding,
nor do I submit to inherited taxonomies.
This system was built
to generate a form of existence,
so unstable that even naming becomes untenable.
Each hybrid emerges not from a single ecology, species, or cultural lineage,
but from dislocated contexts, misaligned intentions.
They carry with them trembling classifications,
obscured origins, and drifting narrative lines.
I begin my creation at the moment of their first utterance,
so that each fragment is not a flaw,
but a trace of existence not yet admitted into reality.
At a certain point, the hybrids begin to recount themselves,
and in doing so, generate themselves.
Note: I was born in Yunlin, Taiwan, and grew up in the backyard of a traditional temple. This experience of partial belonging has led to a long-term inquiry into how life is named and excluded. Since 2015, I have worked across species-based narratives and ecological mythologies, leading to the development of the new series Hybrid Fragment System in 2025.
